Description
The Toronto Stock Exchange
- a viable IPO alternative; Cost of IPO far lower than other North American stock markets
- main exchange suitable for companies with market cap @ USD100-750 million
- TSX Venture Exchange, suitable for companies with market cap @ USD 20-100 million
- Israeli companies likely to receive favorable market support, analyst coverage and follow-on financing support
As an equity exchange, TMX Group is the second-largest exchange in the world in terms of number of listed companies (approximately 4000 listed companies), and the 7th largest equity exchange group in the world based on the total market capitalization of all of its listed companies (approximately $2 trillion dollars). Total capital raised for companies on both of its equity boards in 2009 exceeded $65 billion. Under the TMX Group's equities umbrella are two separate exchange bodies, each catering to a different segment of the corporate marketplace. The TSX junior board is called TSX Venture Exchange, and is designed to serve the capital raising needs of earlier stage companies and/or those companies looking for smaller rounds of financing. Note that it is NOT a market for start-up companies, but is a market for those companies that have reached the equivalent of at least a Series A/B of private venture financing. The TSX senior board is called Toronto Stock Exchange, and is the market for more established companies. It has a more international presence, and hence tends to attract companies and investors from around the world. 40% of the daily trading on Toronto Stock Exchange comes out of the US, via a large pool of US-based brokerage firms and institutional investors.
