Joel Stein, Pearl Cohen Zedek Latzer

Joel (Jody) Stein received his law and business degrees (JD/MBA) from Columbia University in 1987. Before emigrating to Israel in 1993 he worked for six years at the New York offices of Morgan, Lewis & Bockius and at Shearman & Sterling in corporate finance, securities and environmental law. Upon arriving in Israel and being admitted to the Israel Bar, Mr. Stein served for two years as general counsel of a leading Israeli software development company and its venture capital subsidiary. Mr. Stein joined the firm of Pearl Cohen Zedek Latzer in Herzelia in 1996 and is a partner in its corporate and intellectual property department. His practice focuses on patents, licensing, private financing for the high-tech sector, cross-border joint ventures and technology licensing. His clients include a large number of start-up companies as well as several of Israel’s ‘blue-chip’ high-tech companies. Mr. Stein has resided in Bet Shemesh for the past 15 with his wife and four children.


Nir Ben Levy, Co-Founder, Gstock

Nir is an internet entrepreneur. Nir Co-founded Gstock.com a distributed computing stock picking service in 2005. Before Gstock, Nir co-founded Huminity.com, which pioneered the social networking arena. Nir also developed several web ventures for analytics, seo, social search engine, and business intelligence, including Hasholtim.com, 50matches.com, pagealizer.com, netnir.co.il and more. Nir manages a portfolio of web services, and consults web site owners and internet entrepreneurs. Nir holds an Accounting (CPA) and Economics degree from Tel Aviv University. Dalia Megiddo, MD, MBA, Managing Partner, 7 Health Ventures

Before joining 7 Health Ventures Dr. Megiddo was the managing partner in InnoMed Ventures, one of the leading Israeli healthcare venture funds since 2000.
Dr Megiddo has been involved in the Life Science Venture Capital Industry since 1999 and is well recognized as one of the leaders in the healthcare investment community both in Israel and internationally. She is a frequent speaker at local and international meetings and served as a board member of public companies: Given Imaging (NASDAQ-GIVN) and Elron (NASDAQ-ELRN), as well as private companies (Glucon, Impliant, Chiasma, Notal Vision and Barnev).
Dr Megiddo holds an MBA from Kellogg- Recanti School of Business, and teaches at various entrepreneurial programs in Israeli universities. She completed her medical studies at the Hebrew University’s Hadassah Medical School in Jerusalem in 1978.
After spending a few years as a faculty member in the Family Medicine department at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem, Dr. Megiddo founded and sold two successful businesses in the medical field: The Journal Club - Israel’s leading provider of Continuing Medical Education for physicians, and Academia Medica – a medical multimedia developer and worldwide distributor for Continuing Medical Education programs for physicians.


Dan Zetland, Corporate and Marketing Communications

Dan is a freelance consultant specializing in corporate and marketing communications. He is a seasoned copywriter and editor with over 30 years experience working with technology companies and their products and services on a broad range of marcom projects, including: advertising copy; annual reports; articles for the general and trade press; brochures and flyers; business plans and proposals; content for websites; naming names; PowerPoint presentations; press releases; and white papers. Dan was born, raised and educated in the United States. He holds B.A. (Psychology) and M.A. (Human Development) degrees, both from the University of Chicago. Immediately prior to immigrating to Israel in 1968 he was a Senior Market Research Analyst at Marplan, a Los Angeles-based subsidiary of The Interpublic Group of Companies. His career in Israel included a 20-year stint at Scitex where he held positions of Marketing Services Manager and Public Relations Manager.

Yair Safrai, General Partner, Concord Ventures

Yair Safrai co-founded Concord Ventures and served as Vice President of the Nitzanim Venture Fund, where he was actively involved in all aspects of the fund's growth and success. As General Partner at Concord, he specializes in information technologies with emphasis on Internet-related, software and communication companies. Prior to joining Nitzanim, Yair was in charge of business development at BVR Technologies, a high-tech company specializing in aviation simulation. Prior to BVR, Yair held key consulting, marketing and business development positions at IGS Inc., a hi-tech start-up, and P.O.C., a leading marketing and strategy consulting firm in Israel. Yair holds a B.Sc. cum laude in Economics and Management from the University of Tel-Aviv, an M.A. in International Studies from the Lauder Institute of the University of Pennsylvania, and an MBA from the Wharton Business School. Yair served as jet fighter pilot in the Israeli Air Force.

Caren Weinberg, PhD Candidate, Centre for Technology Management - University

Currently completing her PhD at the University of Cambridge in the United Kingdom, Caren Weinberg's research interests include mergers and acquisitions of technology based firms, business strategy, intellectual property and entrepreneurial tendencies. Along with teaching technology management subjects to 3rd and 4th year engineering students, she is the Deputy Director of the i-Teams initiative which was started at MIT. The program provides a unique opportunity for students to build go-to-market strategies for Cambridge's leading-edge technologies and preeminent labs. In addition, Caren collaborates with renowned researchers from the University of Bologna Department of Economics in both research and teaching. Prior to pursuing an academic career, Caren held senior positions at several multinationals including Digital Equipment Corporation, Aurec and Motorola as well as a number of positions with start-ups. She has an extensive international management background, with over 20 years in global computer
and telecom industries where she worked in Finance, Strategic Planning, Marketing, Business Development and Alliance Management.

Caren is also very active in the Cambridge community where she volunteers and holds positions at both the college and department level as well as sitting on committees such as the Cambridge Futures Board, Mentor Network and the Greater Cambridge Partnership's Women's Forum. She was the founder of the Cambridge Graduate Women's Network and continues to mentor both
students, budding entrepreneurs and professionals alike.

Monte Silver specializes in designing and marketing advanced mobile client/server data solutions, among which include the first ever converged Web/Mobile Instant Messaging solution. Sold to Verizon Wireless and throughout the Americas, the solution was the first to bring the Yahoo!, AOL, ICQ and MSN instant messaging communities together over cellular networks.
Mr. Silver is co-founder of Mediatoob, a mobile podcast service, where he heads the marketing and content activities, as well as the sales efforts to strategic operator accounts.
Mr. Silver recently founded the World Podcast Forum, an organization dedicated to promoting the adoption of podcasting, with an emphasis on its business and wireless potential. Prior to high-tech, Mr. Silver practised law in California and Israel. In his spare time, he enjoys fiction and business writing, and has published technology related articles in publications around the world.


Chanan London, CEO, Viven Ltd. / Owner, Advanced Creative Enterprises Ltd.

Mr. London is an experienced executive in communications technology and international business. Prior to joining Viven, he served as VP Customer Development of Ayeca, a start up in the mobile data services management business. Chanan London has accumulated experience in International Business Development, mainly in telecom, Mobile and Fixed operators, Channels and Vendors, Internet Operators and Providers, also from previous jobs as VP Sales and VP Corporate Sales for GEO Interactive Media Group (currently Emblaze Systems), the Video to Wireless Streaming company, as well as several years in senior positions with Comverse Network Systems and Nice Systems. Chanan London holds a B.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering from the "Technion" - The Israeli Institute of Technology, and an MBA degree from Recanati Graduate School of Business Administration, Tel-Aviv University.


Ronit Koren, Founder

Years of investment experience, founding Konnect after servicing 3 years at Battery Ventures, a leading global venture capital firm specializing in a broad range of markets, including: Software, Infrastructure, Communication Services, Semiconductors & Components, Internet & Digital Media, Financial Services, Tech-Enabled Businesses, and Clean Tech & Advanced Materials. From 2006 to 2008 Ronit focused on investments in the Internet, Communications, New Media and Cleantech sectors. She was involved with Battery’s investments in FreshPoint, Technion Seed, cVidya and Neoclous.
Prior to joining Battery, she was involved in the high-tech sector for 13+years, and held management positions in technology and business development for companies ranging from startups to mid-tier firms. During this time she negotiated strategic partnerships, raised funds and was involved in M&A transactions in the high-technology industry in Israel and worldwide.

Koren holds a BA in Psychology from The Open University, an MA from Tel Aviv University and an EMBA in
Marketing from Baruch College, CUNY.



Shmuel Kandel, Professor (deceased)
27 May 1951 – 16 January 2007


Professor of Finance, Dean of the Faculty from 1999 to 2003, and incumbent of the Maurice and Gertrude Deutch Chair for Research in Finance and Accounting.
The late Shmuel Kandel was not only a brilliant scholar of international repute, respected equally by the academic and business communities. He was also a driving force and leader of innovation and change.
Aside from the positions he held at the Faculty, which he joined after receiving his Ph.D. from Yale University in 1983, and the contributions he made to the research of financial risk management, asset pricing and portfolio theory, he was an outside director of the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange in the years 1992-93 and 1996-2000.
He received the Smith Breeden Prize for the best Journal of Finance paper in 1996, the Batterymarch Fellowship in 1988, and the Allon Fellowship in 1988-89.
He taught at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago and at the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He was a Research Fellow of CEPR, a Member of the Board of the Israel Economics Association, and an Associate Editor of the Journal of Empirical Finance and the European Economic Review.
